THE HOLIDAY PARTY

The holiday party is set! The selection committee voted unanimously to hold our yearly function at the Pyles' house. The food will be catered by a woman who recently moved here from Germany, where she worked in the catering business.

The menu is:

Appetizer

Onion and leek toast

(3) dips + crackers

Main

Pork spare ribs - Austrian style

Potato gratin casserole

Fresh rolls

(3) mixed salads

Dessert

Apple cake

Chocolate cream puffs

She will cook, serve, and clean up for $21 per person. We will also need to buy paper plates, utensils, cups, non-alcoholic drinks, etc. Total cost should be about $23 per person. The Club contributes some of this cost to bring the price down to $18 per member or significant other, and $23 for non-members.

The address is:

38138 Mila Ct.
Fremont
(510) 791-0589

From the south: Take I-880 north to Mowry. Turn right or east on Mowry and go several lights to Fremont Blvd - a main intersection. Turn left or north past the light at Eggers to Mattos. Turn left on Mattos two blocks to Mila Ct. Turn left and go to the end.

From the north: Take I-880 south to Thornton. Turn left or east on Thornton and go several lights to Fremont Blvd. Turn right or south past the light at Central Ave to Mattos. Turn right on Mattos two blocks to Mila Ct. Turn left and go to the end.

Begin arriving after 2:00 pm. Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. Don’t forget to bring your holiday homebrew to share.

The usual gift exchange will occur after dinner.

There is a $15 limit on the price of the beer-related gift. This will enable the lucky recipient to take home beer, glasses, T-shirt, books, etc., but there’s a fun twist to the exchange. You may or may not go home with the gift you opened.

The exchange works like this: each participant draws a number. The person who draws #1 opens a gift (all gifts must come wrapped.) The person with #2 can take #1's gift or open a new one. If #2 "steals" #1's gift, #1 opens another gift. This proceeds until all the gifts are unwrapped.

All the gifts must be visible upon opening. As you will see, some gifts are very popular and can't be secretly "hidden." After all the gifts are opened, a non-participant will arbitrarily set a time limit unbeknownst to anyone - now the fun and the lightning round begin. You proceed again with #1 starting until the clock runs out. Then everyone keeps the gift they have or they can be traded afterwards. Couples may bring 1 or 2 gifts.
