August Picnic

For those who missed the picnic, you missed a whole day of good food, nice weather, great beer and mead, and a comfortable evening of free music in the park. For those who attended, we had a terrific time! Three cheers to Bob Jones for organizing the annual picnic at scenic Oak Hill Park in Danville.

Nobody recorded anything because we were all busy picnicking. Thor took photos with his digital camera. The splendid slide show can be found at

Thanks Thor! Thor has also agreed to take on our Club's web page and possibly publish back issues of The Draught Notice newsletter. Look for the Club at

The style of the month for August included meads, and much mead was poured. Some of the highlights were Thor's keg-on-a-handcart with a rhino tap handle. This is a handy portable set-up that could easily earn the "gadget-of-the-month-award," except that there is no such award. But if we had it, his cart would win.

Paul Marshall demonstrated his goose fending technique. It looked ridiculous, but it actually worked.

John cooked salmon on the barbecue, which was eaten quicker than it took to grill it.

There were three kinds of sausages, lots of delicious salads, and lots of tasty desserts.

There were even a few ants and yellow jackets to make this a classic picnic.

As the evening approached, some left to bid farewell to Judy Ashworth from Lyons Brewery, as it was her last day there. The rest of us staked out our blankets on the grassy hillside to listen to country & blue grass entertainment by John McEwen. This was one of Danville's free concerts in the park. The music was fun, and of course the crowd behaved - they wouldn't want to spill their wine or upset their picnic baskets or get grass stains on their loafers. It was a pleasant evening - a perfect end to a wonderful picnic. Thanks to all who attended and participated in this special club event.

Thor (a.k.a. Mike Wood) has graciously offered to host the September Draught Board meeting at his place in Oakland (near Jack London Square). Mike has facilities to put up to 5 kegs of our beers on draft from his cooler.

We will meet at 2:00 pm on September 13th in

Thor’s Loft
{address removed)

Don’t forget to bring your Belgian beers.
