Celebrating 20 years of Homebrewing January, 1997 Volume 20, Issue 1

Holiday Party

The Draught Board celebrated the Holidays at Beck’s Steak House in Fremont with fine food, plenty of home brew, macarena dancing, and a spirited gift exchange. The dining hall was packed with familiar faces and a few new faces for this festive event.

On tap, members brought:

Bruce’s Dunkel

Harry’s Christmas Caramel Beer

Joe’s Pale Ale, Porter, and several other beers

Bob’s Most Excellent Stout

Tom’s Steam, Doppelbock, and Barleywine

Dave’s Belgium Dubbel

Even bottles of Anchor’s Our Special Ale were available.

The gift "exchange" was highly interactive this year, with most gifts changing hands several times before all the gifts were open. After all the ribbon and paper settled, here is what we went home with (glassware seemed to be the predominant theme):

Kim - European Beer Almanac, Christoffel glass and two beers.
Harry - Kruikenbier glass and beers.
Dave & Celese - Brew Ware book and Beer Navigator.
Roger - Case of Samuel Adams winter Classics.
Paul - Some sort of weird rubber finger thingy, and an electric Pez dispenser.
Barry - Glassware.
Joe & Bonny - Moylan’s Imperial Stout and glasses.
Bob - Zymurgy mouse pad and keg ornament.
Loretta - Frambois Boon and glasses.
Charlie - Leavenworth Brewery T-shirt.
John - Big Book of Brewing.
Ann - Monte Carlo mug.
Tom - Two glass boots.
Margie - Basket of condiments.
Bruce - Belgian Christmas beer.
Ken & Janet - 8 Fremont Brewing Company pint glasses.
Mike - unopened mystery gift.

We all had such a good time that even the family members of the restaurant couldn’t resist joining in the party and sampling the home brew.

A special thanks to Charlie Webster and Bruce Brazil for organizing this successful and lively holiday event. And three cheers to the people at Becks, who were so brave as to rent out their banquet room to a homebrew club.
