August, 1996 Volume 19, Issue 8 July Picnic
by Charlie Webster
This year's
Draught Board Picnic was held on the shores of the lake
at Kim & Harry's condo complex. The site was well
shaded to keep the beer cool, and only a short walk from
Kim & Harry's kitchen.
The turnout
of, I think, 16 members and guests wasn't as impressive
as the turnout of 9 kegs of beer. Admittedly not all of
them full and on-line at once (kegs, that is), but
impressive none the less. Several of the kegs contained
wheat beer made at the Brew-in in May. The character of
these beers was very different ranging from extremely
good to "just peachy."
There was
plenty of food to go with the beer, again in wide variety
ranging from Jerry's home-made bread, through lasagna, to
John's delicious barbecued salmon. John swears that it's
a secret ingredient that makes it so good, but we'll try
to talk him into publishing the recipe here.
After we ate,
we had a spirited discussion about the future of the Bay
Area Brew Off (BABO). The discussion resulted in an
agreement that we would investigate alternative venues
for the competition. John agreed to visit several
alternatives and report back.
